PUBLIC NOTICE

The Clarke County Sheriff’s Office is scheduled for an on-site assessment as part of the program to achieve accreditation recognition by verifying it meets professional standards.

Administered by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA), the accreditation program requires the agency to comply with state-of-the-art standards in four basic areas: policy and procedures, administration, operations, and support services.

As part of the on-site assessment, agency employees and members of the community are invited to offer comments at a public information session Sunday August 29th at 5 pm in the Clarke County Courthouse Atrium. Comments will be taken by the Assessment Team.

Agency employees and the public are also invited to offer comment by calling (706) 613-3717 on August 29th between the hours of 9 am until 11 am. Comments will be taken by the Assessment Team.

Telephone comments as well as appearances at the public information sessions are limited to 10 minutes and must address the agency’s ability to comply with CALEA’s standards. Clarke County Sheriff’s Office – A team of assessors from the Commission of Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA), will be arriving on Saturday August 28th, 2010 to examine all aspects of the Clarke County Sheriff’s Office policy and procedures, management, operations, and support services, Sheriff Ira Edwards, Jr. announced today.

Verification by the team that the Clarke County Sheriff’s Office meets the Commission’s state-of-the-art standards is part of a voluntary process to gain accreditation recognition working toward full accreditation- a highly prized recognition of public safety professional excellence, he said.

As part of the on-site assessment, agency personnel and members of the community are invited to offer comment at a public information session by calling (706) 613-3717 on Sunday August 29th, 2010 between the hours of 9 am until 11 am, or in person at 5 pm in the Clarke County Courthouse Atrium, located at 325 East Washington Street, Athens, Georgia
